IR35 has a wide effect, and can catch out many innocent contractor relationships. Following a year’s postponement, these rules will extend to the private sector for the first time from 6 April 2021. For affected contractors and those businesses using their services, there will be significant tax and practical consequences. It is important that appropriate steps are taken before 6 April to ensure that the tax position – and the contractual/employment relationship – remain as intended.
