Media, arts & culture

Advisers sharing your passion.

Media, arts and culture are key to the fabric of our society and we believe they should be fostered and encouraged. Whether you are part of the art world or involved in the media in some capacity, from time-to-time you will need support from lawyers with a truly in-depth knowledge your industry and the legalities surrounding it. As a firm and as individuals we are passionate about the arts, championing emerging artists with our in-house contemporary art gallery; regularly sponsoring literary awards; and hosting seminar programmes with topics centred around the arts. A number of our Media, arts and culture specialist lawyers also serve as trustees or directors for well-known institutions within performing arts.

About

Our passion extends to our work, with our multi-disciplinary team advising artists, art galleries, museums, agents, auction houses, private collectors, government bodies and organisations within the art sector on a wide range of matters relating to art, antiques and cultural or heritage property. Our Private Wealth team provides tailored guidance on the tax and estate planning considerations for private clients, trustees, museums and charities. On the business side, our Commercial team drafts and negotiates robust commercial contracts relating to ownership and provenance, intellectual property, import and export, buying and selling, insurance, auctions and other relevant commercial requirements.

Our work also covers activities in music and publishing, advising a variety of high-profile clients and their agents both in the UK and internationally. We draft commercial agreements around event management and sponsorship, marketing and agency, recording, publishing and management and live performances. We also advise on image rights, defamation and reputation management.

On the litigious side, we draw on the expertise of our Media and privacy and Intellectual property teams to advise high profile individuals (including many actors) and companies in the media in litigation actions involving libel, breach of privacy, breach of contract, and copyright and trade mark infringement cases.
