Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
We are committed to furthering a culture at CB that places ED&I at its heart.
Underpinned by two of our Core Values as a firm, Individuality and Collaboration, we celebrate diversity and respect the unique and distinctive qualities of clients and colleagues. We promote inclusion as our default, working together with shared purpose and valuing the input of others in a consultative and supportive way.
This applies to everything we do from how we service clients, our recruitment practices, our marketing activities, to how we manage, develop and retain our people.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee includes Partners, lawyers and business support staff. They meet on a regular basis to consider how we can be a more inclusive and supportive place to work. The Committee has the full support of, and reports to, the firm’s management board.
We have established a professional network called HigHer which elevates women and champions equality in the workplace. Driven by a diverse internal committee, HigHer supports women (both inside the firm and within our network of clients and contacts) in excelling in their careers through an annual programme of training and network events.
Corporate social responsibility
We believe that we have a clear obligation and responsibility to serve the wider community’s needs. By doing so we fulfil the core values of our organisation and offer staff a sense of involvement and engagement with the community.
We are proud that our Charity of the Year, as voted for by our people, is Sebby’s Corner. Sebby’s Corner believes no child should go without the essentials, with the charity providing anything from nappies and formula to period products and school uniform to teenagers.
Through fundraisers, sponsored challenge events, collections in the office, and volunteering, we aim to contribute to their mission and help make a difference in the lives of families living in poverty, families escaping domestic abuse, refugees, asylum seekers and victims of modern slavery and human trafficking.

“I think sometimes women feel more constrained about promoting themselves and putting themselves forward than some of our male counterparts. And it’s nothing to do with ability, it’s just to do with having the confidence. And sometimes you need a bit of a nudge or push in the right direction to make your voice heard. And really, that’s what HigHer is about.” – Tania Goodman, Partner and Head of Employment.
Many of our lawyers and other non-legal professionals serve as trustees or directors for charities and institutions, including many in the field of performing arts.
A number of our lawyers provide free legal advice to members of the community who would otherwise be without legal assistance. At local law centres, evening clinics and the Citizens Advice Bureau, advice is given on housing, employment and family law problems.
Several lawyers also supervise BPP Law School students in their community legal advice clinics.
