Collyer Bristow, in support of its growing practice advising ambitious businesses, is delighted to announce Karen Mortenson joins the firm as an Employment Partner as of 8 September 2025.
Karen joins from Shoosmiths, having also previously worked at Howard Kennedy and Dechert. She brings almost 20 years’ experience advising employers on all aspects of employment law, acting as a trusted advisor to global general counsel, HR leaders and executive teams across a wide range of businesses both in the UK and based internationally.
Karen provides tailored, solutions-driven advice to clients. Her work includes managing complex employee relations issues, senior UK hires and exits, and broader organisational change. She also has considerable expertise advising on the people-related aspects of corporate transactions, and regularly acts as lead employment counsel on mergers, acquisitions and investments.
Karen becomes the sixth member of the firm’s Employment team, which is led by Tania Goodman along with Partner, Andrew Granger. The Employment team sits within the firm’s Commercial Services department alongside the Corporate and Commercial teams.
Commenting on Karen’s appointment, Tania Goodman, Head of Employment at Collyer Bristow, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Karen to the firm. Her reputation precedes her, and her wealth of experience is a welcome addition to the strength of our Employment offering. Karen’s appointment further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing our clients with commercially focused, high-quality advice.”
On joining Collyer Bristow, Karen Mortenson says:
“I am thrilled to be joining Collyer Bristow and working with such a talented team. The firm’s reputation for delivering exceptional client service, and its strong focus on growing its offering to businesses, made this an exciting opportunity. I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of the Employment team and firm overall.”
Collyer Bristow’s Employment team advises employers (as well as senior executives and employees) on all aspects of employment law, including contracts, policies, workplace disputes, restructurings, discrimination claims and the employment aspects of corporate transactions. The team is highly regarded for its practical and commercially focused approach, delivering clear, solutions-driven advice to a wide range of clients.
Karen is the third new Partner to join Collyer Bristow in the last four months – with Nick Mann joining the Private Client Real Estate team and Carly Russell joining the Private Wealth department – reflective of the firm’s strategic growth plans and attractive platform for ambitious talent.
