We advised a UK arts charity on how best to restructure its corporate group to help reduce burdensome administrative expenditure, as well as relocating the principal entity from Jersey to the UK in a tax-efficient manner.
For clients who have or will shortly come into a significant wealth (e.g. following the sale of a business interest), we work with the families to formulate and implement a bespoke strategy for their philanthropy. This typically involves establishing a charitable entity (which may be a trust, a company or a charitable incorporated organisation, depending on the circumstances) and coordinating the client’s other professionals, such as investment managers and accountants.
Where a client wants to leave a considerable gift to charity in their will which would make a lasting and significant difference, we work with the client and the selected charity to structure a bespoke strategy for the legacy that is satisfactory to achieve their shared objectives and vision. Â Also, we collaborate with charities to promote philanthropic giving among the wealth management sector.
We advise clients on making charitable donations in the most tax-effective way, utilising the tax reliefs available to maximise the benefit for both the client and the charity.
We support our clients with individually tailored legal advice, in areas such as:

At a point where the accumulation of your wealth has ensured the financial security of your family you may wish to consider your lasting legacy and turn your attention to how your wealth could be used to reflect your personal values and make a difference to causes of importance to you. This could involve creating your own charity or foundation, establishing a trust to benefit several existing charities, or leaving a gift to a chosen charity in your Will. To be confident that you are providing the best possible support to your chosen causes, you should work with advisers with a thorough knowledge of charity law and the expertise to structure your charitable giving appropriately.
